Coming Soon – Essential Awareness Course for Safeguarding of Children

02-May-2017

North Kent Training Service (NKTS), the training office of Medway Voluntary Action, will be providing much needed understanding and insight into Child Sexual Exploitation this coming June, to comply with recent amendments to Government legislation.

In February of this year, the Government launched a new definition for Child Sexual Exploitation (CSE) along with new Working Together advice on CSE.

In it, The Department for Education has updated its Working Together child safeguarding guidance to reflect the changes, and issued a new guide for practitioners on working with child sexual exploitation.

The new definition of child sexual exploitation is now clearer and states:

Child sexual exploitation is a form of child sexual abuse. It occurs where an individual or group takes advantage of an imbalance of power to coerce, manipulate or deceive a child or young person under the age of 18 into sexual activity (a) in exchange for something the victim needs or wants, and/or (b) for the financial advantage or increased status of the perpetrator or facilitator.

The victim may have been sexually exploited even if the sexual activity appears consensual. Child sexual exploitation does not always involve physical contact; it can also occur through the use of technology.

Raising awareness of child sexual exploitation is important to helping prevent young people from becoming victims of this crime.

In response to this, North Kent Training Service will be delivering an essential briefing into this subject in June 2017. Booking can be made here.

The briefing will provide an overview of the issues relating to CSE and actions that can be taken to help reduce the risk locally.

More details will follow shortly about the briefing. For further information, or to express your interest you can contact the training team  on 01634 818360 or enquiries@nkts.co.uk .
