Extraordinary Professionalism and Commitment - Health Chief Praises Staff at Medway NHS Trust


Lord Carter of Coles recently visited Medway NHS Foundation Trust and praised staff for their ‘’inspiring’’ and ‘’exemplary’’ commitment to providing the best of care to the people of Medway and Swale.

Author of the Carter Review in 2016, The House of Lords member and NHS Improvement Non-Executive Director met with staff at Medway Maritime Hospital to discuss the improvements taking place across the organisation.

Lord Carter was accompanied by Hugh Marshall, NHS Improvement Regional Productivity Director for the South Region; and was guided through a typical patient’s journey at the hospital in Gillingham. He also heard about how the Trust is using data more effectively to improve care through the Model Hospital digital information tool, which was conceived through Lord Carter’s review.

During his visit, Lord Carter went to see the hospital’s Emergency Department, speaking to staff and seeing some of the work taking place. He also hosted a Q&A session for senior staff on how the hospital can continue to improve care for patients.

The sentiment from Lord Carter was of great praise, applauding the Trust’s staff for their extraordinary professionalism and commitment, commenting that it was absolutely tremendous to visit Medway and to meet some of the staff, who are incredibly inspiring and show exemplary commitment.

Lord carter also observed that the Trust’s Emergency Department was one of the best that he has visited and is “an example of what a good A&E should look like.’’

The sentiment from Lesley Dwyer, Medway NHS Foundation Trust Chief Executive, was that it was an honour to receive Lord Carter to Medway, and that the visit provided the Trust with opportunity to share some of the improvements being made across the organisation and to learn from others as the Trust continues on their way to brilliance.

The Trust know they have more to do to become a brilliant hospital, but the visit made clear that they have already done so much to be proud of.
