Have Your Say to Improve Urgent and Emergency Care Services in Medway – Take the Survey

18-Aug-2017

Medway Clinical Commissioning Group continues to encourage Medway residents to comment on plans for easier access to urgent care services in Medway, and is keen to learn the views and experiences of patients, public, stakeholders and staff that live in Medway and the surrounding areas.

The Medway Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) is responsible for planning and buying local NHS services. The sentiment from the group is that they recognise the current system for delivering urgent and emergency care is under a lot of pressure.

As a result the CCG had been studying and going over Urgent Care Services for some time; they are now ready to share recommendations for improvements.

Urgent Care Centre Proposal

The main part of their recommendation involves an Urgent Care Centre that would be located near the A&E Department at Medway Maritime Hospital; where a range of tests, treatments and services would be available at this one centre, 24 hours a day, seven days a week from April 2019.

The CCG highlight that patients needing emergency care – which includes immediate or life-threatening conditions, serious injuries or illness – will continue to be treated in Medway A&E.

However; the intention of the Urgent Care Centre would be to treat those needing urgent care elsewhere, and so reducing pressures on the local A&E Department.

Public Engagement Events

As reported previously, Medway CCG is holding public engagement events to enable people to ask questions and share their views on the proposals.

The second of two local events is taking place on Tuesday 5th September, 6.30-8.30pm, at St George Hotel, 8 New Road, Chatham, ME4 6BB.

At the time of writing, a new venue has recently been announced:

Another public event will be is taking place at Oasis Academy (Isle of Sheppey West Campus), Marine Parade, Sheerness, ME12 2BE, on Wednesday 30th August, between 9am-5pm.

This new announcement is a joint event with Swale Clinical Commissioning Group; this allows another opportunity for local and immediate residents in the Medway area to express their views.

The Medway CCG ask that anyone wishing to attend the upcoming public events can register through their Urgent Care webpage, where you will find the proposal for the Urgent Care Centre; as well as provide you with the CCG questionnaire to express your views.

Printed copies of the proposals and the questionnaire can be requested by email at medway.communications@nhs.net, or by calling 01634 335020. .

More details can be found on the Medway CCG website.
