Let Teachers SHINE Opens for 2017 Applications

SHINE are still taking in applications for their Let Teachers SHINE competition, a national competition for teachers who have a brilliant idea that teaches English, maths or science to disadvantaged young people in England.

Run by the charity SHINE, Let Teachers SHINE is a national annual competition to find some of the country’s most innovative teachers.

It looks at original ways to raise attainment in literacy and numeracy, as well as the sciences, amongst disadvantaged students.

The competition is open to teachers working in England who work with students aged between 4 and 18 years.

Winning applications should share some of the following:

Have clear objectives

With measurable meaningful impact.

Have a sensible, transparent budget

Say why the money is needed.

Have the potential for expansion

For projects that can scale up.

Be innovation

Have genuinely new ideas and fresh approaches.

Target disadvantage

It must benefit disadvantaged students educational achievement in literacy, numeracy and/or science.

A panel of judges from SHINE will choose the winning projects, and each one will then receive a grant of up to £15,000, as well as additional support to get their projects off the ground.

The funding is intended for the 2017/18 academic year and can be used for staff time dedicated to the project, the costs for equipment required or third party resources or support.

Successful ideas can involve after-school programmes or the unique use of technology. They could work with whole classes, small groups or individuals.

The deadline for applications is midday on 24th April 2017.
