Funding Round-up – Environment, May 2022

Here is a collection of funding rounds from local and national organisations focusing on environment themes aimed at helping charities continue work.

Whilst every effort has been made to provide up-to-date information, due to the varying nature and progress of public policies and other related activity, MVA do advise that some of the details below may have changed since the time of its issue and ask that readers please check with each organisation’s website for the latest news.

Environment Fund from Kent Community Foundation
The Environment programme from the Kent Community Foundation awards grants typically to not-for-profit organisations and registered charities with projects that encourage local community action to improve local community and living spaces, as well as educational work that focuses on the impact of climate change on local communities across Kent and Medway.
The Foundation advise the aim of the funding is to support projects that understand the link between poverty of life and poverty of environment and try to improve the communities most affected.
The next deadline for this season is 31st August 2022, with further dates to be announced later in the year.
More information and how to apply can be found at the foundation’s website.

Countryside Stewardship: Wildlife Offers
The UK Government are offering financial incentives for farmers, foresters, and land managers to look after and improve the environment.
The Government says the main purpose for Countryside Stewardship is for the protection and enhancement of the natural environment. This includes biodiversity (the diversity of wildlife) and water quality.
Offered through The Rural Payments Agency (RPA) in collaboration with Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs (Defra), The Forestry Commission, and Natural England, there are four funding strands open to applications, which are designed to be simpler and easier to apply for:
The Government says these offers were introduced to complement the existing proposals, opening the scheme to more farmers and land managers, and all landowners who make a valid application for any of the four new packages this year will be guaranteed funding though the scheme.
The Government advise the programme is also an opportunity for farmers new to Countryside Stewardship, or farmers coming out of previous stewardship agreements, to sign up for an agreement that will be guaranteed for its lifetime, protecting wildlife, boosting biodiversity, and delivering environmental benefits for their local communities.
The deadline for applications is 29th July 2022.
More information and how to apply can be found at the Government (RPA) website.

Urban Tree Challenge Fund from the UK Government
The Urban Tree Challenge Fund (UTCF) was created in response to the Government’s commitment to provide £10 Million for planting trees in and around England’s towns and cities, supporting their 25 Year Environment Plan and contributes to its pledge to plant one million urban trees by 2022.
Focussing on areas with higher social deprivation with fewer trees, particularly near schools and healthcare centres, the Forestry Commission say the fund will support people’s health and wellbeing, helping the country build back greener from the pandemic and support wider environmental benefits.
Available for public bodies, non-government organisations, community groups, charities, individuals and private companies, the Government says the grants will fund the planting of trees and the first three years of their care to make sure they can flourish into the future.
The Government advise applicants must have full management control over the land or signed consent from those with management control over the land.
The deadline for applications is 31st May 2022, with further dates expected to be announced.
More information and how to apply can be found at the Government website.
