Funding Round-up – Physical Activity and Sport, June 2023

Here is a collection of funding rounds from local and national organisations focusing on physical activity and sport themes aimed at helping charities continue their work.

Due to the varying nature and progress of public policies and other related activity, MVA do advise that some of the information below may have changed since the time of its issue, and whilst every effort has been made to provide up-to-date details, they ask that readers please check with each organisation’s website for the latest news.

Peter Harrison Foundation - Opportunities through Sport Programme
This programme supports UK registered charities and Community Amateur Sports Clubs that offer sporting activity or similar projects where they provide opportunities for people who are disabled or otherwise disadvantaged.

The Programme aims to fulfil their potential and to develop other personal and life skills.

Trustees of the Peter Harrison Foundation welcome applications for projects that:
  • Provide a focus for skills development and confidence building through the medium of sport
  • Have a strong training and/or educational theme within the sporting activity
  • Provide sporting equipment or facilities for disabled or disadvantaged people
  • Have a high degree of community involvement, or
  • Help to engage children or young people at risk of crime, truancy or addiction
The Foundation advises that grants will often be “one off” for capital projects, however revenue funding is also considered for a new project or if funding would make sure of the continuing success or survival of an established project.

The deadline for this season is 1st July 2023 with further dates to be announced later.

More information and how to apply is available at the Foundation’s website

The Dan Maskell Tennis Trust
Grants are available to help disabled people in the UK to play tennis through the purchase of wheelchairs and tennis equipment. They also have grants for coaching.

Started in 1997, The Dan Maskell Tennis Trust is a tennis charity that raises funds for people with disabilities.

Named after the late Dan “the voice of Wimbledon” Maskell, the Trust grant can aid individuals, disability groups and programmes, clubs, schools, and associations to help with the purchase of wheelchairs, tennis equipment and grants for coaching.

The deadline for this season is 13th June 2023 with further dates to be announced later.

For more information, and how to apply, visit the Dan Maskell website.

Everyday Active Small Grant from Active Kent & Medway
Formerly known as Kent Sport, Active Kent & Medway continues to provide grants to support Kent and Medway clubs and organisations.

Following its efforts during and after the pandemic, the Everyday Active Small Grant is available for any club or organisation working to encourage and increase participation in physical activity for those living in Kent or Medway.

The funding organisers says the monies can go towards projects such as new programmes, festivals, events, launches or celebrations of activity.

At the time of writing there was no identified deadline, which means enquiries to apply for the funding could be made at any time.

More information is available at the Kent Sport website.

Grants to Improve the Quality of Life for Disadvantaged & Vulnerable People (UK)
The Hedley Foundation is inviting applications from small-to-mid-size registered charities helping to improve the quality of life of people in the UK, particularly those who are disadvantaged and vulnerable.

The Foundation typically makes around 250 awards of up to £5,000 each year for initiatives which benefit the lives of young people, disabled people, elderly people, the terminally ill and otherwise disadvantaged people, and those people who care for them.

Occasional larger sums are given to charities where high impact can be achieved.

Whilst The Foundation advises applications should be received at least 6 weeks before the next review meeting on 26th July 2022, further deadlines are to be announced later this year.
