Honouring Kent’s Volunteers – A Service of Thanksgiving at Rochester Cathedral, March 2026

In early March 2026, Medway saw a Service of Celebration and Thanksgiving for Kent’s Volunteers at Rochester Cathedral.

The service, hosted by His Majesty's Lord-Lieutenant of Kent in partnership with The High Sheriff of Kent, was to recognise and celebrate the incredible dedication of volunteers across Kent.

Attended by hundreds, the event celebrated the immeasurable impact of volunteers from over 180 organsations across Kent and Medway, honouring the dedication and altruism of volunteers working across Kent to support local communities.

Hundreds of volunteers from various charities and organizations attended the event, including representatives from Kent Search and Rescue and local football clubs. The service featured music, speakers, and tributes to local volunteer dedication with insights from volunteers highlighting "The Power of Volunteering".

There were uplifting and encouraging words given by speakers from community support centres and local charity leaders, including Munya Badze from Baton of Hope, and Patsy Barrett from Porchlight.

The service was also supported by the Rochester Cathedral Choir, Kent Police Band, and the Let Loose Gospel Community Choir, with performances by local Cadets

Described as a heart-warming and inspiring occasion, the evening was a humble but also a powerful reminder that meaningful change does happen through people who offer their skills, expertise and time to provide a service to community and contribute beyond themselves.
