At HDRC Medway we know the value of your voice and lived experience can help shape research that genuinely reflects Medway’s communities.
Who we are
HDRC Medway (Health Determinants Research Collaboration Medway) is a partnership between Medway Council, the University of Kent, and local communities. Our goal is to support the council to use high quality research when making decisions that affect people’s health and wellbeing.
A key part of our work is ensuring that residents guide and shape that research. A Public Advisory Group is one of the ways we do this. You do not need any qualifications, as we value your lived experience above everything else.
We are looking for people to join now
We welcome people with lived experience in any of the following areas:
- Living in deprived areas
- Ethnic minority communities
- Visual, hearing, or sensory disabilities
- Low literacy or barriers with written information
- Mental health conditions Long term physical conditions (e.g. COPD, asthma, diabetes, hypertension)
- Homelessness, migration, Gypsy/Roma/Traveller communities, or justice involvement
- Parents and young people
- Unpaid carers
- Older adults
- LGBTQIA+ communities
What you will do- Attend friendly, face to face or online meetings
- Share your views and experiences
- Help shape local research and projects on the wider determinants of health.
Hours are flexible and will vary depending on project needs (there are no guaranteed or regular hours).
What you will receive
- £27.50 per hour (NIHR standard involvement rate)
- Support for internet costs
- Travel support and help with accessibility needs
- Easy read or accessible materials (if required)

If you prefer to participate on a voluntary basis, that is completely fine — the choice is yours.
