Many volunteer managers feel a bit daunted by DBS checks. They can seem complex, with jargon and specific terminology.
In recognition of this, MVA will be hosting an online demystifying DBS checks workshop at their volunteer manager support network meeting on the 21st of January.
Below are some of the key topics that we will be discussing:
- Understanding the Different Levels: Basic, Standard, Enhanced and Enhance with Bar List.
- Definitions of Common Terms used.
- The Application Process: What to Expect.
- Determining Eligibility and Levels.
- Submission & Processing.
- What to Do When you Receive a DBS Certificate.
- Understanding the content.
- Risk Assessments.
- Where to find help.
- Re-checking DBS certificates and frequency.
- Common pitfalls and avoiding them.
The workshop provides a fantastic opportunity for peer learning, the sharing of knowledge and support from fellow sector leaders, all working together towards creating a safe and welcoming environments for volunteers, and the communities you all serve.
