With one of the biggest periods of change going on in Local government in England, two national organisations have created resources to help Charities navigate this.
Local government in England is going through one of its
biggest periods of change in a generation.
Through
devolution and local government reorganisation, new decision-making structures are developing that will
shape how services are designed, funded and delivered in communities.
The changes include things like
replacing two-tier Councils with unitary authorities and, in some cases, elected mayors by 2028; this will shift
decision-making closer to communities, altering service delivery and funding structures.
Key aspects of this transformation also intend to transfer powers and funding from central governmental offices, such as Whitehall, to local leaders; particularly for transport, skills, and housing.
The UK Government has encouraged councils to submit proposals for these changes, aiming for universal coverage of strategic authorities; and these changes affect how local services are designed, demanding greater partnership between Local Governments and the Voluntary Sector.
To help organisations navigate these changes, the National Association for Voluntary and Community Action (NAVCA) and Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) have launched a new website.
This new website brings together practical resources for the voluntary, community, social enterprise and faithsector (VCSEF) local authorities, strategic authorities and rural community support organisations.
The new website acts as a
hub for practical resources, helping VCFSE organisations adapt to new regional structures.
