Volunteer as a School Governor – Make a Real Impact

Becoming a school governor is a fantastic way to support your local school and help shape the future of education. Governors work as part of a team to guide the school’s strategic direction, support leadership, and ensure pupils receive the best possible education.

You don’t need to be an expert in education, just someone who cares about children’s learning and wants to make a difference.

• Time commitment: Around 6–10 hours per month, including meetings and school visits.
• Support provided: Full training and ongoing guidance.
• Who can apply: Anyone over 18 with a passion for education and a willingness to learn.
• This is a rewarding role where you’ll grow professionally, build new connections, and help improve outcomes for young people.

Dandelion Time is a charity working with children and families using nature based therapy to restore relationships following trauma, neglect or abuse. We need volunteers to support the family caseworker deliver the session, help with cooking, craft and other nature based activities.

We have a new exciting opportunity for volunteers, the project is supported by Morrison's in Strood and is held twice a month, it is to provide a safe and stimulating environment where dementia carer's can drop their loved one in to the community room while they go shopping in store in the knowledge that their person is being looked after.

Support budding artists to explore their creativity in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere in an after school session on Tuesdays from 3pm - 5pm. This informal group of 13 - 17 year olds is peer led with an optional creative activity on offer each session. Help setting up for the workshop and clearing away afterwards forms part of this valuable role.

At Alzheimer’s Research UK, an important part of our work is raising awareness of dementia, and the vital role that the charity plays in spearheading the search for a cure.

You can help engage your local community with the work we do by finding local groups to approach, then delivering talks and information sessions about dementia and the power of research to find a cure.

What Will You Be Doing

• Research and approach groups and societies in your area who might be open to you coming to talk to them.
• Deliver talks, mainly face-to-face but could be online.
• Accept donations for the charity or attend a local event to thank donors for their support.
• Update your local Regional Fundraising Officer (RFO) regularly.
